Ehlin Is the second daughter of William Hing (Wong Jook) and Leung Ei Jun of Zhongshan China. She was born on 22 March 1936. She attended Newmarket Primary School from 1941 - 1946, Normal Intermediate 1947 -1948, then EGGS from 1949 - 1952 where she attained University Entrance. In 1953 she spent a year at the Auckland Business College. Unlike most Chinese girls of the time she worked in an office in the city instead of having to work in the family fruit shop. After mother died Oct 1943 I was taken away from Kindergarten in Eden St and sent to school as there was nobody at home to look after me. Miss Moore was my first form teacher. I also started Sunday school about the same time. After Newmarket School I went to Normal Intermediate in Disraeli St Mt Eden for 2 yrs then on to EGGS where I made a lot of longlasting friendships and was extremely happy. EGGS enriched my life and I was sorry when my school days ended after the 6th form after I was accredited with UE.
William Hing known to chinese as Wong Jook was the fifth child of Wong Wah Hing and She Yeong of Barn Mei En, Zhongshan. He arrived in Auckland, New Zealand on 9th July 1919 via Fiji where he had some schooling at Marist Brothers' School in Suva.The boat he came on was the 'Talune'. One of his older brothers Wong Kum Siu was already here. One of his text books had his name in it and the date 26-4-16 so presume he had 2-3yrs education there.
