for services to the Chinese Community
Connie Fay Ling Kum has an outstanding record of voluntary service to the Chinese community and to local mainstream community organisations for over 50 years including the following :-
1960’s - Secretary / Treasurer for the Auckland Chinese Sports Association;Secretary / Treasurer for the Chinese Club Inc
1970’s - Member of the China Ball Organising Committee for 10 years
1978-!980’s Treasurer for the Epsom Girl Guide Local Association
1980’s - Operations Manager for fundraising for the Auckland Chinese Community Centre Food Fairs & Dragon Boat Festival Food Fairs
1990’s - Treasurer for Royal Oak Primary School Board of Trustees for 6 years (beginning of Tomorrow’s School programme)
2000’s - Operations Manager for The Action Group & New Zealand Chinese Association Auckland Inc. in fundraising projects viz food stalls at Lantern Festivals and other events,banquet dinners,dance partiesand garage sales.
2002 - 2004 Selected to be a member of the Poll Tax Advisory Team which was formed to assist the Government in formulating the aims and objectives for the Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust to administer the $5 million fund on behalf of the descendants of the early Chinese settlers.
2000 - now Executive Committee member of New Zealand Chinese Association Auckland Inc. and Treasurer from 2002
2001 - now Executive Committee Member of Auckland Chinese Community Centre Inc. and Joint Chairperson of the Fundraising Sub-Committee plus acting as Assistant Treasurer in the last 3 years.
2005 - now Headmistress for the NZCA Akld. Cantonese Bilingual Music Classes which Connie initiated as an Innovative method of teaching Chinese to NZ born children whose first language is English
