New Zealand Women’s Weekly. “Scene & Heard.” October 16, 1989, 78.

The China Oriental Markets opened with a festival, attended by influential individuals such as David Lange, then Auckland mayor Dame Cath Tizard, as well as Chinese and Maori community representatives. The markets were planned to be used as a central point for retail, entertainment and community gathering. Information adds to the history of Chinatowns in Auckland. Shows the Chinese community need for a central place in which they can get in touch with different aspects of their culture. This festival illustrates the community’s enthusiasm for the Chinese culture.
